Remember that nothing is impossible
December 31, 2008
I first want to say what an exciting year 2009 will be for Ellwood City!
This time next year our new “stat of the art” library will be open and
will draw residents from throughout the area.
Ellwood City revitalization will hold a town meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3
at the Sons of Ital. You will all be pleased with what we have done in a
year’s time. The snow date for the meeting is Feb. 10.
ECR has listened to what residents said, and we have come up with a plan
to get people coming downtown and walking our streets again – not just
locals, but people from all the towns around us.
And yes, we and they will see what great stores and restaurants we have,
what wonderful town Ellwood is and how much Ellwood will have to offer
new businesses and families that will want to come here!
I know it will not be easy to raise the money for revitalization. It
will be hard for all organizations to raise the money needed to keep
helping the people of our community.
But on thing everyone needs to remember about the people of Ellwood City
– we are the most resilient, giving, caring people I have ever met from
anywhere around the country.
When the people of Ellwood believe in something, our community pride
kicks in and we make things happen.
So, yes, every dime, quarter and dollar will help change our town for
the better. When you have lived in other towns you realize how special
our town is. It is home!
I would like to put in a little reminder in honor of my dad, Henry
Bazzichi, and Mary Ferrante, who was both a big part of the Ellwood City
blood, drives for years.
Giving blood is something you can do to help our community and it
doesn’t cost you any money. (You just have to remember to eat and drink
lots of fluids before you donate.)
Now I have to go back and thank everyone that helped ECR in 2008. The
ECR Board put in more that 1, 440 hours of volunteer work to get ready
for the town meeting.
For more information, go to our website, www.ellwoodcity
revitalization.org. Please have trust and faith in the ECR Board knowing
we have only one objective: To improve the look and functionality of the
downtown in order to attract more business and employment opportunities
for our community.
We want to do this while maintaining our heritage and becoming an
excellent example of how private enterprise, working in cooperation with
local government and the citizens of our area can accomplish wonders.
With vision and energy we will forge together a plan to help our own
economy and bring joy and fun back downtown!
So, be watching our big, beautiful ECR sign in front of the borough
building. We will be taking some sections off because we are almost
two-thirds of the way to reaching our first phase goal.
May I leave you with this to keep in your minds: Luke 1:37, “For with
God nothing shall be impossible.”
Lenore Bazzichi is president of the Ellwood City Revitalization
Committee.
