Revitalization efforts in Ellwood City are
on the right path for accessing state grant funding, the appropriations
chairman of Pennsylvania's House of Representatives said Tuesday. State Rep. Dwight Evans, D-203,
Philadelphia, told officials from the borough and the Ellwood City
Revitalization Committee that they are doing exactly what they should be

A year ago, a crowd jammed ESB Bank’s
community room despite freezing temperatures to hear about revitalizing
downtown Ellwood City. Tuesday night, a crowd nearly three times
that size turned out to fill the Sons of Italy hall and offer specific
ideas for remaking the borough’s business district into a vibrant,

The committee working toward a
revitalization of Ellwood City has raised $46,500 so far. Board member Wendy Barensfeld, who heads
the financial committee, gave that report at Tuesday night’s meeting.
She noted the borough was among the first contributors with $7,800 in
seed money. ESB Bank also donated $5,000 in seed
money, with a pledge of more to follow. (read

revitalization meeting

The
revitalization of Ellwood City began in a big way Tuesday night as about
150 people attended a town hall meeting with the Ellwood City
Revitalization Committee and EG&G, the revitalization project's planning
firm.
"This was the largest crowd that EG&G ever had," said Dom Viccari,
borough manager, "and that speaks volumes about what Ellwood City is all
about. It's overwhelming and exciting to see that kind of enthusiasm."

Members of the planning firm for the
Ellwood City Revitalization project will be in town over the next month
gathering information to incorporate in their design plan for the
downtown area.
Representatives of EG&G Inc. of Akron, Ohio, met with the revitalization
project’s board of directors Tuesday, their first meeting since the
board signed a contact with the firm in November. (read

It’s been more than 40 years, but Lenore Bazzichi can still reminisce
about the heyday of Ellwood City, when there were two movie theaters,
dozens of shops and a bustling business district.
“I remember coming home from high school and going to the drugstore and
getting cherry Cokes, going to Isaly’s, and getting skyscrapers,” said

Women’s Association
Members and guests of the American Business Women’s Association met at
the Connoquenessing Country Club for the regular monthly meeting and
dinner. Susan Vogler, president, welcomed those in attendance.
Kathy Blank introduced her guest Lynn Campbell of Ellwood City, a former
member. Louise Carroll introduced her guest, Maryalice Meli from the New
Castle News. Carroll gave the invocation before dinner. Members recited
