American Business Women’s Association
Members and guests of the American Business Women’s Association met at
the Connoquenessing Country Club for the regular monthly meeting and
dinner. Susan Vogler, president, welcomed those in attendance.
Kathy Blank introduced her guest Lynn Campbell of Ellwood City, a former
member. Louise Carroll introduced her guest, Maryalice Meli from the New
Castle News. Carroll gave the invocation before dinner. Members recited
the salute to the flag.
Jennifer Bowser, treasurer, introduced special guest State Rep. Jaret
Gibbons, D-10, Ellwood City, and Lenore Bazzichi from the Ellwood City
Revitalization committee.
Following dinner, Vogler conducted a brief business meeting. Bowser,
treasurer, and Joan DiCarlo, recording secretary, gave their reports.
Vogler asked that all members in attendance attend a club planning
session at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Blank’s home. Stephanie Harper, vice
president, distributed packets of club information to each member.
Carroll reported on plans to feature a vocational speaker at each club
meeting. Members will be asked to give a brief report on their current
vocation and signup sheets will be available.
Bowser introduced Gibbons. He thanked the club for inviting him to the
dinner and meeting. Gibbons spoke on women in business and the various
programs and help available to women thinking of starting a small
business.
Bowser introduced Bazzichi. She spoke on plans for the revitalization of
the Ellwood City Business District and presented a slideshow of the
buildings in downtown. Kevin Bowser assisted her with the slideshow.
Bazzichi asked for the support of all residents as plans for the program
continue to develop.
Blank announced plans for an open house at Ellwood City Hospital Oct.
26. All gift items in the hospital gift shop will be sold at a
discounted rate and a bake sale will be held.
Members were asked to donate items for grab bags to be sold at the open
house. Donations should be brought to the next meeting.
Virginia McMillen sold 50/50 raffle tickets, and Bazzichi won the prize.
The next meeting will be Oct. 22 at the country club and will be a
Halloween party. Costumes are optional. Vonnie Brough will present a
Halloween program.
Vogler reminded members that the annual craft auction will be Nov. 14 at
the Country Club. Members were urged to begin collecting crafts for the
sale.
Linda DeSanzo reported on plans for members to gain knowledge about
other ABWA members. An information sheet was distributed for members to
complete and return to DeSanzo.
Vogler closed the meeting by thanking Gibbons and Bazzichi for their
programs. She also thanked members for their attendance and gave the
benediction.
